About This Build

The design of this property was challenging for two reasons:

1. The neighbours either side were concerned with the existing bungalow being replaced by a two-storey dwelling and the impact this may have on their homes.

2. All 5 bedrooms required en-suites and wardrobes and four of them had to be exactly the same size.

3. The clients also required somewhere to live when their existing home was demolished to make way for their new home.

The use of lower height gables on the boundary adjacent to the neighbours bungalow ensured the property did not dominate it and with the main roof being formed with smaller gables, the heigh of the house was kept appropriate to the street scene. We achieved all the room requirements and so all of the occupants were delighted with their own space. The family space is an excellent example of modern living, with the family room. dining room and kitchen all open plan. The huge bi-folding door set in this room provides a simply jaw-dropping view of the garden and fields beyond and allows the patio terrace to become part of the house.

So where did the clients live during the build of the house? In the garage of course!! The garage was constructed prior to the build of the house and the family moved in just before the existing house was demolished. 2 of the garage bays were converted to living accommodation and ample sleeping space was provided in the roof. The garage remains as such to this day and is a very popular AirB&B destination for visitors in the area.
