About This Build
Mr and Mrs Stephens had a vision to create a new, attractive and thermally effective home on a plot they had purchased in their village. Their plot was part of a site for two, both which had stunning open countryside views and we successfully achieved planning for the both houses.
The planning application was particularly challenging as the site was originally outside the development boundary of the village. Further to a proposed change of the neighbourhood plan, the site was proposed to be included within the development boundary of the village and, although it was not formally adopted at the time of submitting the planning application, continued negotiations with the Local Authority eventually proved successful.
With the exception of the W/C and the utility room, the house is completely open plan on the ground floor. The magnificent vaulting ceiling in the dining room at the front of the house is further emphasised with floor to ceiling glazing. Either side to this glazing and to the dormer windows, West African tropical Iroko hard wood has been used for stunning effect. At the rear of the home, a large bi-folding door set opens bringing the countryside into the house.
As you can see from these following photos, this has turned out to be a truly elegant home and has been a popular feature in many of the self-build magazines and publications.
